Adelaide's Birthday

We tried to wait until we reached our due date before scheduling any kind of induction but because of my blood pressure continuing to rise and the gallbladder becoming excruciatingly painful we decided to schedule it for Wednesday, June 17.
My mom came out the night before to be with us during the labor and I'm SO thankful she could make it. We headed to the hospital at 6:30 AM on Wednesday after getting maybe 3 hours of sleep. Once I got settled into our room our doctor arrived and started talking about hooking me up to the pitocin to start the induction. I told her I'd rather have my water broken rather than start any drugs. Thankfully she was willing and she broke my water at 9 AM. The first 5 hours of labor were a piece of cake with contractions about 8-10 minutes apart. We spent time walking around the courtyard and sitting on the labor ball. Then I decided to get in the birthing tub as the contractions were getting a little more painful. After about 10 minutes in the water my contractions picked up and were about 3 minutes apart. During all of this Jordan was being an AMAZING coach and was always ready to rub my back during each contraction.
Contractions were so intense that I just laid on the bed for the next two hours and concentrated on breathing through them, with Jordan counting through each one. My mom was reading scripture through all this and was a great cheerleader. Pretty soon I wanted to push pretty badly and started pushing at 4 PM. After 2 hours of pushing Adelaide Hannah Johnson was born with a head full of red hair just like her father's. Jordan had the experience of catching her and cutting the cord. She weighed 7 lbs 14 oz and was 19 inches long. Because I tore significantly we were kept in the hospital for 2 days and released on Friday.

She has been the easiest baby I've ever met. Sleeping all night and all day and only cries when I don't feed her soon enough or when we attempt to change her diaper. She makes so many amazing facial expressions already and is quite the noisy sleeper, always cooing and sighing in her sleep and smiling. The biggest trouble we've had yet is she falls asleep every time she nurses so her feedings are very prolonged, but I'm so greatful for the time.

Being parents is the most amazing experience Jordan and I have had yet. We love her beyond words and it's definately bringing us together in our marriage. We thank God for her presence every day (almost every moment!).

As I wrote you on facebook, I'm so glad breaking the water was tried first and worked! Sounds like a good birthday (except for the tear for you). And Adelaide will outgrow the sleeping-thru-feedings thing in a few weeks. I remember undressing Jesse and other things to make him uncomfortable so he'd stay awake long enough to eat. But each week you will notice her changing, probably faster than you want her to ;) She's beautiful, we're so happy for you guys!

Oh I am so happy for you guys...I got teary eyed reading this, I don't know why?! Maybe just reading about the birth brings back into perspective just how amazing the creation of life is! God has blessed you both dearly and I am so, so happy for you guys! (keep it up on the nursing, I know that gets hard with sleepy babies and soreness!)

Yay! I am thrilled that she has red hair...silly, I know. I am so excited for you guys, but I am sad that we will not be able to see her until she is significantly older. Hopefully Elijah will come soon, because I want to make sure that he is tough enough not to get beat up by little Adelaide. We love you and continue to pray for your little family!

I am so happy for you!! It sounds like you did everything right and you didn't have to get any yucky drugs!! That is amazing!! Livi was SO noisy when she slept when she was first born she has gotten a lot quieter! And the feedings will get better she used to only nurse for a couple minutes every few hours but was still gaining weight like crazy!! Oh I am SO dang happy for you guys!!!! And I am sorry you tore :( but I am so happy you didn't have a C home birth for baby two is possible now!!!
